Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (2)

It's no secret that for every exceptional and critically acclaimed movie that is released, many films end up being completely maligned and eviscerated by critics and audiences alike. However, even with films receiving bad reviews after bad reviews, it only takes a singular critic to make a film's Rotten Tomatoes score higher than the infamous 0%, a rarity on the site. It speaks volumes that even some films considered the worst of all time still have Rotten Tomatoes scores higher than 0%.

This makes the films that manage to achieve the never-sought-after goal of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes all the more interesting, as their unbelievably low quality has beaten the odds to become unanimous hatred from critics. Each decade and period has its own collection of films that have reached this milestone, with the 2000s having one of the most varied and intricate collections of garbage films. Ranging from low-effort comedies that conjure up no laughs to horror movies that can't produce scares, these films are easily in contention for some of the worst of all time.

11 '3 Strikes' (2000)

Directed by DJ Pooh

Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (3)

Attempting to be a comedy film that sheds light and levity on the difficult topic of incarceration and the habitual offender law, 3 Strikes sees Brian Hooks as Rob Douglas, a man who has just been sentenced to jail for the second time. This places him in the precarious situation of getting a life sentence if he gets convicted a third time, forcing Rob to leave his street life and go on the straight and narrow. However, it seems like it's already too late, as Rob is in the process of being framed for a crime committed by his friend J.J., who picked him up in a stolen car.

Its painfully unfunny abundance of lazy, low-brow humor as a crutch.

Much like many of the other terrible comedy films of the 2000s, the biggest issue with 3 Strikes is its painfully unfunny abundance of lazy, low-brow humor as a crutch for just about every aspect of the film. This style of humor seldom lands with critics, and combined with the film's nonsensical and confusing plot, it's no surprise that the film managed to be a complete misfire among critics. Ironically, despite its 0% critics score, the film has a respectable 67% audience score, showing that there truly is a major difference between audiences and critics.

10 'Killing Me Softly' (2002)

Directed by Chen Kaige

A painfully awkward erotic thriller that wasn't in the least bit erotic or thrilling, Killing Me Softly follows the intense, highly sexual relationship between young woman Alice (Heather Graham) and her new fling, Adam (Joseph Fiennes). However, as their relationship grows more and more intimate, taking no time at all to become newlyweds, Alice begins to hesitate when she begins to learn some strange and disturbing facts about Adam's previous life and experiences with women. What makes things more disturbing is that, despite knowing these things, Alice is still hesitant because of just how passionate their love has been.

There's a multitude of reasons why Killing Me Softly didn't connect with critics, from the film's strange and nonsensical pacing to its egregiously ludicrous plot twists to the dialogue that seemingly only serves to take you out of the experience. Possibly it was the difficulty that came from this being director Chen Kaige's first and only English-language film, but no matter what the cause was, the final result was a film that annoyed critics and audiences much more than it charmed them.

9 'Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever' (2002)

Directed by Wych Kaosayananda

Easily in contention for one of the worst action movies of all time as well as one of the worst movies of all time according to Rotten Tomatoes, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever goes above and beyond in terms of mediocrity. The film follows Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu as rival agents and lifelong enemies Jonathan Ecks and Jane Sever, who have constantly been at odds with each other for their entire careers. However, the duo is forced to team up with one another to defeat a common enemy that has created a device that, when injected into victims, will allow them to be killed at will.

While the vast majority of 0% films on Rotten Tomatoes achieve their scores because of a relatively smaller pool of critics, this excuse does not apply to the mass hatred from critics for Ecks vs. Sever. The film has a commanding 0% despite having 119 different critics' reviews, easily the highest of any 0% film and placing it in contention for the worst movie of all time on the site. It's not exactly surprising that the film is such a deterrent for critics, as its lackluster filmmaking and overblown action paled in comparison to every other action movie of the era.

8 'Pinocchio' (2002)

Directed by Roberto Benigni

Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (4)

Pinocchio has been a beloved and iconic children's story for over a century, so it seems baffling that any adaptation could achieve a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet that's exactly what Roberto Benigni's 2002 version accomplished. The film sees Benigni as the titular living puppet, who decides to spend his new, unexpected life running around and creating mischief for all those around him. The film has numerous parallels with the original tale, with Pinocchio being a part of a puppet theater, having interactions with a talking cricket, and traveling to a fun fair where he is turned into a donkey.

This is certainly one of the more interesting cases behind a 0% rating, as Benigni was genuinely on top of the world during this era, with Pinocchio being his follow-up to his Academy Award-winning film Life is Beautiful. The truth behind this 0% rating is that it isn't actually for Benigni's original Italian film that he created, which was much more mixed in its reception as well as being highly successful in Italy. The 0% applies to the appallingly terrible English-language dub released by Miramax that was released in the U.S., which butchered the film and made it feel like a creepy, unfunny disaster. Ironically, Benigni would get a second chance to prove his love for Pinocchio when he portrayed Gepetto in a live-action Italian Pinocchio film in 2019.

7 'Merci Docteur Rey' (2002)

Directed by Andrew Litvack

Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (6)

Creating what could easily be one of the most over-the-top and chaotic soap opera plots for a comedy of the era, Merci Docteur Rey simply wasn't able to contain the chaos of its proceedings and crumbled under its own weight. The film follows the story of a hom*osexual man with an addiction to phone sex who finds himself witnessing a murder after being invited to what was supposed to be an illicit love triangle. He soon goes off to a therapist to talk to her about what he's experienced, not realizing that the therapist is going through her own soap opera story and is in fact only pretending to be a therapist.

As the performances falter, the comedy falls flat, and the pacing is destroyed as a result of the film's pretentiousness.

There are so many branching paths and aspects of the story to follow in Merci Docteur Rey that it eventually just falters under the weight of its own plot, becoming an incomprehensible mess of themes and drama. This is easily the source and cause of every other issue that the film has, as the performances falter, the comedy falls flat, and the pacing is destroyed as a result of the film's pretentiousness. While there may be something here worth watching, which could explain the 67% audience score, this film easily could not find a match with critics.

6 'National Lampoon's Gold Diggers' (2003)

Directed by Gary Preisler

While many people have fond memories of the great comedy hits from National Lampoon, such as Animal House, Vacation, or even Van Wilder, Gold Diggers is a harsh reminder that not all of their comedic ventures are created equal. The film follows the story of best friends Calvin and Leonard, two broke losers who hatch a plan to marry a duo of elderly sisters so that they can get rich off of their inheritance after they die. However, little do they realize that the sisters, Doris and Betty, are planning a scheme of their own, hoping to murder the boys for insurance money.

While many other 2000s comedies have been largely reviled and hated by critics for being too offensive and egregious, Gold Diggers ironically found the opposite problem in the eyes of critics of the era. The film's PG-13 rating meant that it couldn't go nearly as far as the risqué, adult comedy that National Lampoon was famous for, resulting in a dull and mostly boring comedic experience. However, by nature of being an early 2000s comedy, the film still has its fair share of offensive and poorly aged content, so 20 years later, this comedy film managed to have the worst of both worlds.

5 'Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2' (2004)

Directed by Bob Clark

Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (7)

Sometimes you can just tell how low-quality a film is going to be based on the title alone, with no film encapsulating this feeling quite like Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2. Acting as a sequel to the already maligned Baby Geniuses, the film follows a group of intelligent babies who can communicate with each other using "baby talk", and have innate knowledge of the secrets of the universe. The babies must join forces to stop the vicious media mogul Bill Biscane (Jon Voight), who plans to use a satellite system to gain control over the world's population.

While the original film got as low as 2% on Rotten Tomatoes, it took a second helping of terrible baby humor to bring this painful franchise down to the depths of 0%. The film doesn't do that much especially worse than the first film, aside from simply doubling down on the inane premise, terrible visual effects, and outright unfunny comedy. The film feels less like an actual movie that exists, and more like a joke that another movie would make about what an absurdly terrible film would look like. The film still holds the title as one of the worst family movies of all time on Rotten Tomatoes.

4 'Redline' (2007)

Directed by Andy Cheng

Not to be confused with the exceptional animated movie of the same name, 2007's Redline is a painful action racing experience that seemingly took all the wrong takeaways from The Fast and the Furious. The film follows automobile fanatic and aspiring musician Natasha, who finally seems to have made her big break when she is invited out to Las Vegas by a music producer after her great work on his car. However, she suddenly finds herself at the center of the dangerous world of illegal drag-racing competitions, organized by only the most chaotic of car fanatics.

For what is just a generic and boring Fast and the Furious riff that has more focus on attractive girls and expensive cars than an actual story, the behind-the-scenes making of this film is much more interesting than the actual film itself. While the film's production is riddled with a strange story of loans, fraud, and somehow having a direct impact on the housing crisis of 2008. So, when the film at the center of it all manages to be this boring and this uneventful compared to the chaos behind the scenes, its laughably bad execution serves to only be that much more egregious.

3 'One Missed Call' (2008)

Directed by Eric Valette

Horror movies certainly went through a sort of dark age throughout the late 2000s, with the majority of the titles relying on cheap jumpscares, low budgets, and cheap tactics to get audiences through the door. No film quite sums up the dire state of horror movies of the era like One Missed Call, a culmination of all the worst trends and clichés of horror of the era. The film follows a group of people who mysteriously begin receiving voicemails from their future selves, including the exact date, time, and even some details of how they will die.

Acting as a remake of a Japanese horror film from legendary director Takashi Miike, this Americanized version of the film only acts as a complete bastardization of the genuine scares and terror of the original. In place of compelling performances and genuine tension of the original film, the remake features some of the worst, most boring performances in horror film history, as well as cheap jump-scare-reliant horror that has aged like milk. With 80 reviews coming together for its 0% rating, One Missed Call is considered one of the worst movies of all time on Rotten Tomatoes.

2 'Homecoming' (2009)

Directed by Morgan J. Freeman

Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (9)

Adding nothing of value to the already explored world of obsession-based horror movies and thrillers, Homecoming sees jealous young Shelby plotting revenge against her former boyfriend Matt. When Matt returns home with his new girlfriend, Elizabeth, the duo ends up getting into a road accident, with Elizabeth being taken home by the nefarious Shelby. Shelby soon reveals her intentions and fixation with Mike and begins to make Elizabeth a victim of her deranged tendencies and revenge.

Many other horror movies have tackled this concept of obsession gone wrong with much more grace and precision than Homecoming does, which is much more focused on blanket shock value and generic clichés. The final product comes across as much more boring, uninteresting, and overall more mean-spirited than its contemporaries, giving little reason to care about the struggles and relationships at the center of it all. It certainly doesn't help that the performances are awkward and stilted, transforming an already underwhelming horror romp into one of the most boring and worst of all time.

1 'Transylmania' (2009)

Directed by David Hillenbrand, Scott Hillenbrand

Every Movie From the 2000s With 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked (10)

Transylmania, a horror comedy that doesn't succeed with any scares and is even worse when it comes to comedy, is one of many painful horror spoofs that loomed in the shadows of the Scary Movie franchise. The film follows a group of college students spending a semester abroad in Romania, hoping to use the opportunity for an array of wild parties. However, when the students go face-to-face with a group of deadly vampires, they soon have to fight for their lives if they ever want to return home alive.

The Scary Movie films already had their fair share of poorly aged content that has only grown more divisive as the years go on, yet Transylmania goes above and beyond with its offensive, politically incorrect, and outright unfunny sense of humor. The film is a sad, embarrassing reminder of the state of comedy for the era and acts as a harsh reminder of exactly why spoof movies are nowhere near as prevalent in modern culture as they once were.
